Content development is the process of researching, creating, and publishing information to achieve a strategic goal. That goal will be to either connect with an audience or to encourage some type of marketing or sales outcome.
As a result, content creation is an essential component of a content marketing strategy.
In the marketing world, conventional wisdom holds that successful content marketing requires 20% production and 80% promotion. This is nonsense.
What exactly are you going to promote if you spend 80% of your time or budget on promotion? What about the fact that you exist? All of your other efforts will be futile unless you invest in content development and production.
